Names and OC chatter

I need to put this somewhere LMAOOO because I don't know if I'm going to write this fic. 

I have a...thing about names? Like at least with OCs or naming things, it just has to look right. What does 'look right mean'? bro i wish i knew, i wish my brain would tell me but instead I spent hours trying to decipher what it wanted. Here's a bunch of word vomit on the name choices of some of the characters, some of which is insinuated but otherwise isn't directly stated in anything finished yet:

•  Fjern Auor (she/her)

I very specifically didn't want to have to replay FFXII for viera lore and XIV's is kind of sparing in some aspects, or was in like...old ass forum posts. So, I decided okay, she's orphaned and not raised by viera. In the start of the fic/backstory section, she's super young and so she remembers fire/the Garleans attacking, and the forest. From what she learned from the folks who adopted her, she assumed Golmore Jungle. What actually happened is her mothers had decided to leave the Wood and paid adventurers to escort; H'molosi was one of those adventurers.  The fire Fjern remembers is Hydaelyn awakening another set of folks-- in this case, H'molosi. 

Garleans did attack, reasonably freaked out by the sky falling, and also just generally sucking. The adventurers weren't successful and the people they were supposed to escort died (ie Fjern's parents.)  H'molosi gets injured (reasonably distracted) and everything basically goes to shit. The other adventurers managed to save the kid they were traveling with, and tried to get the names of her parents, of the child, but her mothers were talking to each other. The adventurers do their best with actively the worst possible situation, not realizing "fjern" meant remote/distant (ie please take our kid somewhere Not Here). 

This is why H'molosi keeps coming back to that town that Fjern eventually settles in.

Anyway this was all because of a bunch of threads about how FFXII viera names were generally Nordic names. 

• Varian Chosai (she/her, but fantasias often, so any)

When I was figuring out names for everyone, I was also deciding "I am going to go full self-indulgent in every sense of the word." That meant modeling the light party after like...actual friend groups.  Not the people, but the way historically I've found that people with similar interests/similarities will be friends.  Being queer, and having friends who choose their own names rules, and that's what I wanted here for the LP. 

In this case, Varian is a name she adopted because she liked the sound of it, and because most folks presumed it was a man's name. She hasn't told anyone her 'real' name because as far as she's concerned she's used Varian so long it is her real name.  She's the one most likely to pop a fantasia and pick a different body when it's necessary. 

She's also responsible for naming--

• Amasar Bairon (he/they)

Started as a dragon boy and is now a bunny boy because I couldn't make one the way I wanted, life is a struggle constantly. This is funny for reasons of story that haven't been talked about yet/written/posted but it's just a joke with a friend of mine about how Hydaelyn mixed/kneaded a buncha souls together to make him (in his AU).  Bairon is a default Au Ra name it gives you. 

Varian meets Amasar when he still has his viera name, Events Happen, and they leave together; he leaves his name behind. 

That friend who names themselves a normal ass word and you're like oh. Alright. 
 

• Rhel'sae Tayuun (he/him)

Default guy. 

Some friendgroups just have the default guy.  (When he's the WOL he's got two hands and they're holding Aymeric's and Estinien's.) 

• Cellionne Trouvieu (she/her)

Ishgardian noble who changed her name. The light party knows who her family is, but otherwise no one else does. 

That friend who just straight MAKES UP WORDS for their name(s). The vibe is basically "child of conservative becomes kid with blue hair and pronouns." Had a wild streak when she was younger, settled down to some extent after some trouble and became an adventurer. When she's the WOL in her AU, her Azem was in love with Venat.
